Blade Bumpers and Turn Signals

Post by joelittel »

Over the winter I started installing blade bumpers and turn signals on my 80Fi.

Image

I know it's overkill but I used headlights with LED turn signals as well as the actual turn signals themselves from my Gritracing bumperless turn signal kit. I loved the look of the bumperless kit but the blade bumper covers the signal holes and there was no way around it.

Image

I don't mind the overkill, if it helps me be seen it's doing it's job.

Didn't have to drill any holes. Used the hole in the lower grill chrome to mount the signals. For now I'm happy with them. I do think they'd look so much cooler flush with the body and under the headlights, but that's a project for a mid winter to come.

Made similar brackets for all four corners using the bumper shocks, and they work great. Drained the oil from each shock and compressed it as far as needed. Once the bumpers are attached to the body and bracket they're quite secure. I'll post pics of the rear soon, still need to mount the driver's side rear.

Did you use the oem bumpers shocks on the front, I am getting my ass kicked by the adapter kit for the old bumpers. If so I would love to see some pictures!!

I used similar indicator lights, but placed them below the bumper.

Yeah, used the oem bumper shocks on the front too. I probably won't be able to take pictures until Saturday, but the brackets I made for the front are almost identical to the rears.

I'll look for pictures today, there's a chance I took some during the process, I just don't recall. The whole thing has taken me a few months to complete, but only because I don't have a lot of time to devote to the car.

Curly, I love your split front bumper. I intentionally bought a uses front bumper because I hope to split it, some day, just like yours.

I like your blinkers too. I chose the solution I did to avoid drilling... for now.

Front bracket on stock bumper shock. I had to put a slight bend in the front brackets to get everything to fit snug.

74 is included so pre 75. The front bumper on the original posters car looks straighter across than the one on my 71 however. It makes the car look wider and more aggressive. I really like that look. Is that a repro one?

The front and rear set came from two different forum members, so not sure what years the doner cars were.

Both front and back were showing signs of use but look good enough to me while I save for a new set.

The overriders were of the smaller design if that helps to narrow down the model year they came from.
