Fuel filler mods
Fuel filler mods
Anyone ever a Spider with the fuel filler modified ? I was thinking I would be cool to delete the flip up door--weld a patch panel in the top of quarter panel to make it look like the fuel door never existed ---then extend the fuel neck up through the top of the quarter panel and top it off with some kind of trick looking fuel cap--

Re: Fuel filler mods
In my v6 powered spider. I deleted the filler door and put a pro street fuel cell in the trunk...

Here's a shot of mine right after I moved the filler neck to the rear valance. I suppose with a long hose you can make it work with the stock tank but I pretty much had to move it up to work with the 20 gal aluminum cell I installed.

Re: Fuel filler mods
I am moving mine about 9 inches over so it is accessed inside the trunk". At t his time I am planning on keeping the stock tank. I will post pictures when the work starts.

What Ken is showing in his photo is exactly what I was thinking---nice upgrade over the stock filler door in my opinion
Re: Fuel filler mods
Ken, can you give us details on your Monza cap type filler, I was thinking of doing that to my spider.

I like the look of the fuel filler cap. But I like the placement of it on the Abarth spider. I think it looks better.. IMO

Re: Fuel filler mods
my first fiat was an 850 spider. It was a pain to fill and keep the hose from dragging on the paint. I am always amazed at how many people notice the fuel door and comment on how cool it is, even though most modern cars have one on the side. I like the fuel door because it keeps the body line clean and uninterrupted.

Re: Fuel filler mods
That is why I opted for the fuel cell in the trunk. I like the smooth body lines of no filler door. I also am dumping the lock on the trunk for a remote trunk popper..azruss wrote:my first fiat was an 850 spider. It was a pain to fill and keep the hose from dragging on the paint.
