My Spider's Mods

Post by Mad-Machine »

Maddie is getting the full "updated, but looking vintage" look... here are some of things I have picked up so far to help.

I got these from Bruce at the bin. Glassfibre fenders. The workmanship is superb and flawless..

I have a few Porsche parts so far as well. These are the chrome winshield washers that were used on the late 356, and early 911 and 914. Much prettier than the original fiat items.

Also on the Porsche front: These are the "Durant" mirrors. Similar in shape and size to the round mirrors that Alfa used.. but without any emblems and they are heavier and more sturdy than the rather flimsy alfa units.

These are from an Alfa.. the 101 series cars. As I am going with early style bumpers on my 77, I needed front turnsignals.. but I have NEVER liked the slender wrap around things that Pininfarina used. They never seemed to work well with the design of the car. They will be "frenched" into the fenders in that little triangle of space beneath the headlight, above the bumper, and next to the grill. Very Ferrari like.. which is where I got the idea.. the Ferrari 275

To make the long dark backroads a little brighter.. I picked up these Vdub cabriolet grill lights on ebay for a song. Once removed from the grill, they fit the fiat's grill opening with about a quarter inch to space. I could not do this modification without going to the early bumpers as the tubular ones would get in the way of the beam

On the VW front.. I picked up a pair of Vdub reverse lights from the early beetle. As I am dying the stock rear reverse lights red to make more brake lights.. I wanted to underhang a reverselight beneath the bumper like the early spiders. As the stock fiat unit is impossible to find.. this was a good substitute.

I picked up these beautiful badges from Bruce at the Bin (http://www.fiatparts.com) The scan really does not do them justice.

Image

To go with the badges.. I got the early grill surround for the front one. This stainless still "dish" allows the front badge to be grill mounted.

Image

While I have not yet located the front bumper.. I did get my hands on the rears. They need to be rechromed and the holes for the overriders welded shut.. but they are straight.

Image

That is it for now.. I have a couple other things to show, but no pics yet. Some things still need to be modified.. like the nice dashboard I recently got to replace my badly abused one.
