Rear Window Cracking need replaced

Post by gbsailing »

I have a 1978 124 spider. The top is in pretty good shape and it looks like the last owner had replaced before he quit driving it (it sat for 16 years) the rear window looked good but after raising and lowering it the window cracked. I was wondering if it is possible to replace the window without removing the top or having to replace the whole top. I don't want to cut out the old one if it cannot be done and look great. Has anyone posted this before?

Sadly you have to do the entire top.

Agreed. Some old cars used to have zip in and out rear window plastic but I have never seen that on a spider. I’m scrapping our current 71. It has good back plastic I’m sure we could do something if you knew a good canvas place that would do the work. It would be a novelty for sure.
