Nice job.
I noted that the trunk is actually deeper at the front vs the back so i made tapered shims for my new wood. I also noted that the original had a soft foam circle than sat on the top of the spare, so i figured sitting the board on the tire was OK (original ish). The taper was to allow the board to sit nicely around the battery box. Having said that, whatever gives you a smooth surface is fine.
