LED rear turn signal not working

Post by thetex »

82 Fiat spider- Replaced all front and rear bulbs with LEDS and only one not working correctly is the rear turn signals- If I swap out with a standard bulb they work fine- Replaced flasher with Advance Auto EL13.MC1 and it works well except when LEDS inserted in two rear turn signals.
Thanks for your help-

Additional info- When the LEDS are in place they do not flash and illuminate dimly- Standard bulbs flash and are fully bright-

front bulbs are dual filament, parking lights and turn signal lights. Rear bulbs are single filament turn signals only. Any chance you are using the wrong bulbs in some locations?

All bulbs correct- Dual in front, single in rear-
Front LED bulbs works correctly when the filament bulbs are swapped in the rear turn signal sockets. Only when the LED bulbs inserted there that the brightness of them is very low and none of the signals blink.

I'm guessing but what happens if you remove one of the front LEDs and put just one incandescent front bulb back in.
Could be the flasher you have is not compatible with the LEDs
If the Read LEDs work with incandescent bulbs in the front I think the flasher is the problem

I have this flasher on order that has a ground wire- Hope this does the trick!

I still have the incandescent bulbs in my 81 Spider. I did rewire the rectangle side lights so they flash and put LEDs in them.
I have this thought the original light lens have a grain in them that makes them sort of a fiber optic. The lens carries the lights rays through it. I think the LED light is a higher frequency and passes straight through the lens. Directly in back/front of the light will look great but from the side maybe not so good. New cars have an array of LEDs at different angles to accomplish what the lens and incandescent bulb do. Course I'm guessing.

Correct flasher with ground wire did the trick!

The Tes is right - had same problem, and it worked. Also got the dashboard flasher to work properly.

Lot of bulbs are reverse polarity so the ground is at the end of the bulb. You need led that work reverse polarity.
