Fuel Vapor Separator - missing

Post by Greexican »

Just bought a 1977 124 which has had the emissions controls removed and a "new" electronic fuel pump installed. I have noticed that only one of the three lines/nipples coming off of the top of the tank, which from what I have been able to find online would have connected to the Fuel Vapor Separator, are connected to anything. If you look at the attached pictures, you will see what I'm talking about. Line #1 is just an open ended hose leading no where; #2 goes to the fuel pump; #3 isn't connected to anything (the last unlabeled larger hose runs to the filler tube/overflow vent and is all good. I've attached a few other pictures of the fuel pump and where the lines run into the body of the car. My question is this...can I just buy a "new" fuel vapor separator, connect all three of these lines to it as it should and then connect that to the new electronic fuel pump? Is this the right thing to do? Clearly I can't have TWO uncapped lines leading into/out of my fuel tank and I don't want to cap them as I fear some sort of vapor lock situation. Appreciate any help you would give to a total newbie!!

(not overly sure how to post pictures so hopefully this works...otherwise the numbers I refer to above are from top to bottom if looking down on the fuel tank whilst standing at the rear of the vehicle)
