Just for the record, the original fuel lines never went inside the cabin. Also I'm running mine on the passenger side. On the stock spider all the lines ran on the drivers side with part of it running through the transmission tunnel. Here's the finished 3/8" fuel line...I'm running a 5/16" line for the tank venting into the carburetor.

Re: Fuel Line - Aluminum or Steel
the later cars 79-on the fuel lines ran inside the car down the drivers side frame rail. what dont know except it was probably a liability issue if the driveshaft failed and ruptured a fuel line. i know i have repaired cars where the "guibo" went bad and destroyed the shifter extension, the rear trans case and ripped out the fuel and brake lines. so i see why. but running them inside the car in the area they do the lines get wet and rust thru. so now you have a fuel leak inside the car, which is also not so good

Re: Fuel Line - Aluminum or Steel
All spiders fuel lines ran outside the body. It is a HUGE safety issue by running fuel lines inside the cab. There isn't any stock street legal cars that have fuel lines run inside the cab from any era I can think of maybe early 20's or earlier. If there is a fuel leak inside the cab it would be a huge fire and fumes issue... bad bad bad... where did you get such info if you don't mind me asking?ClarkTheShark wrote:OK - I have a 79 that i converted to FI. The 80 FI has the fuel lines run inside the cab, along the driver's side floor at the side frame box.

Re: Fuel Line - Aluminum or Steel
According to my service manual stock spider of all years is either along the frame rail under the underside of the car(79 and later) or run up through the transmission tunnel. All of which is outside of the car. Running fuel inside the cab is very unsafe I'd change that as soon as you can.. IMO.. I don't even like it crossing paths with the exhaust. That is also unsafe..RRoller123 wrote:The 80 FI has the fuel lines run inside the cab, along the driver's side floor at the side frame box.

Re: Fuel Line - Aluminum or Steel
ALL FI Spiders had the fuel lines ran inside the car. It makes no diff what your manual said. Just find a 80 or newer car and that is what you will see. There have been a lot of posts on this form with people showing pictures of their rusted lines in the car. I have an 81 and 82 with the lines in the car. One things about these cars, just because you haven't seen
it does not mean Fiat did not do it.

Re: Fuel Line - Aluminum or Steel
I guess I am just shocked they would do such a thing..if I had one of those cars I'd fix that issue immediately. You have a leak in the cab and one spark and its over..very unsafe I've seen what fumes can do and have friends that are permanently scarred from gasoline fire burns. Btw there was no mention of the fuel lines being ran through the interior of the car in my fiat service manual.. Everything I read suggested the fuel was ran on the exterior.redcars wrote:ALL FI Spiders had the fuel lines ran inside the car. It makes no diff what your manual said.
