I bought a new top from Germanex in California, and at long last I had it mounted...with a modification, of course!
I had them add a 3-sided zipper around the rear window.
The top can still be lowered normally, but now I can also put the rear window down separately.
Window down:
I'm really looking forward to having shade, yet all the top-down breeze for those long road trips! I also know the best way to extend the life of the window is to keep it clean & unbent, which this should help with. The zipper isn't totally waterproof, as I chose to not add a flap to cover it, trying to keep it less obvious. It can be zipped from both the inside & outside. This was done by Riggs Bro's in St Charles. The only catch is that it can ONLY be done to the top pre-installation. It would be neat if Germanex would add this as an option when ordering a new top ...

Re: Modified Convertible Top
Lee, that looks really good. One of the Texas Spider owners has one of these windows in his green spider. A couple years ago when we caravaned from San Antonio to Nashville for FFO I think it made all the difference for him and his passenger in the July heat. Too bad they can not sew the zipper into a top already installed.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Re: Modified Convertible Top
is there a canvas top that can be had w/the zippered rear window from the manufacturer? had one in an mgb a few yrs. back and was a very worthwhile accessory. that one looks sweet.
if you can't be an example, be a warning.

Re: Modified Convertible Top
I'm curious how long the zippers will last under full tension? Suppose time will tell, but I would store it loose if it were mine!
Looks great though!!
BTW - Towel on the rear seat and one in the fold when dropping the top will preserve it for years and years. Mine is going on 12 yrs now and as clear as the day I put the top on. We here in the NW can dream of days so hot you would want the top up to shield from the sun. Typically just the opposite for us!

Re: Modified Convertible Top
I was thinking of using Germanex...what do you think of the fit/quality?
He says he can do Sonnenland Canvas with a charcoal rear tinted plastic for under $500.
Do they have the velcro flaps for the rear windows?
Thanks.

Re: Modified Convertible Top
I found the Germanex quality to be top-notch.
Yes, the top has the proper velcro.
