I recently bought a 79 Fiat last fall and I’m debating what to to for the crossmember issue. There is a hair line crack which needs to be fixed to pass inspection. So I’m wondering if I should get it professionally welded with a bracket or should I attempt replacing it.
If I decide to replace it, does anyone here have the experience removing the crossmember without pulling the engine out? Thank you, Mike

Find a local custom car shop and bring it to them.

Re: Crossmember fix or replace?
A frame and body man repaired my unibody frame members, so that my crossmember would bolt up tight. And he completed an Abarth racing 'through-bolt' alteration (that I found on this forum), at the same time, to improve upon the 'ill-fated' Fiat engineering of this. I think the 'plans' are on my thread,...
I did all of the disassembly and reassembly, etc,...but I only spent $600 for the work. And the frame/crossmember are rock solid! And afterward, the car aligned perfectly. Drives like a dream,...
PM me here for further info,...I'm glad to help.
Todd.

Hi Todd,
Nice job! And you didn’t spend whole bunch.
Car is put away for the winter but as soon as I can take it out I will disassemble and inspect before anything.
Thanks for your time, much appreciated.
Cheers!
Mike
