Southern California 1979 2000

Hey All!

I had been looking through these forums for some time now and I finally decided to join the club!

I just purchased a 1979 Fiat Spider 2000 on Monday and I'm excited to start working on it! It's in pretty good shape and I'm hoping to fix up minor issues to really make it pop. I'll post some pictures below:

This is my first time with an older car and I'm hoping I'm not in over my head... So far this is what I've come up with on my "to do" list:

To Do List:

New Emblems/Badges
-Hood, Trunk, Sides

Fix the Heater (It's been freezing in So. Cal)
- The Fan makes a screaming noise and it blows non-heated air out (I'm hoping there's nothing wrong with the heater core)

Fix the Clock
- It runs on its own time and can't be changed (I saw a thread about fixing clocks so I'll look into that more

Figure out why it sounds semi flooded in 1st,2nd, and 3rd(until 4000rpm)
- The fuel pump never turns off so maybe that's why?

Sand off some minor rust before it becomes a big issue

I've had my 79 since it was new. It's got over 250000 miles on it. The interior is in much better shape than mine, as my console needs replacing.

It looks good.

Welcome to the club. You'll finds lots of help here. All you have to do is ask.
If you don't know for sure when the timing belt was last changed, it should be at the top of your list. Do a search on timing belt on the site and you'll get all kinds of instruction on how to do it.

I'm in LA (I've got one more year at USC )

I was told the timing belt was replaced a couple thousand miles before I bought it. The seller told me to replace it every 30k miles or so. My plan was to replace it at 20k to be safe, but maybe I'll do it now and start tracking on my own.

Looks nice! It's a carbon copy of mine except mine is the auto version without luggage rack. Looks like the po added some custom gauges to the dash midsection, nice.
