My problem is very similar to a previous post, read this for background info: http://fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php ... ure#p12183
I hooked up the mechanical oil pressure gauge. I tried to bleed the air out of the line several times but it just comes back at the fitting on the oil filter housing when the oil pressure drops to 0 after shut down. I guess thats normal.
(note: cold here is about 70 deg)
At a cold start up: Oil pressure is right at 40 psi at idle
At a cold start up: Oil pressure is right at 60 psi at 4000 rpms
After fully warmed up: Oil pressure is 16-20 psi at ide
After fully warmed up: Oil pressure is 45-50 psi at 3500-4000 rpms
My bottom end was not rebuilt, and I'm currently running Shell rotella "T" 15W/40 oil.
From others and previous posts the oil pressure should be between 50 and 85 psi. Is that at high rpms 3000-4000 ??
Should I switch to a heavier weight oil like 20W/50 or 30W?? If so what is a good brand ??
What are peoples opinions on oil filters with anti drainback valves ?

Re: Low oil pressure
I'd be content with that oil pressure. You could run a heavier oil in your climate if you want, but the Rotella has plenty of zinc and that's hard to find these days

Re: Low oil pressure
What brand oil filter are you using? Just curious. I had an oil pressure problem with one of my cars after changing the oil but got the oil pressure back after replacing the filter again.
BTW, the 50 psi on mine was at idle.

Re: Low oil pressure
Rule of thumb, 10psi for each 1000 rpm, so 10-15 at idle, 40 -50 at 4000 rpm. You are good to go. Is this an 1800 motor? if so your reading are correct, if it is a 2000 motor it is still ok but could be higher.
