Grinding noise in steering

Post by buzzyb »

HI have a 75 spider and went to that it for a drive,as I was backing out of the garage I heard a grinding noise in the steering.I checked the oil in steering box,OK I even adusted the steering box, same, the noise is louder when turning the wheel to the right, sounds like a rubbing grinding crunching noise, loud, jacked up the car and looked at the steering components, all looks good and all is tight, sounds like coming from box,but maybe the idler,Skunked those anyone have any
info on were to start of were to look, this just happened, never heard it before, will be grateful for info.Thank,s Buzzy!

Bearings? take the wheel , brakes and hub off and have a look. No harm if they are ok as you can re-pack them with grease for a piece of mind.

YOU need a hand
someone to turn the wheel
and a lond peice of metal rod
put it on the idler and listen
then the STbox
then the outter ends one buy one
listening all the whille
you will find it this way!
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)
