all were plastic from the factory, they only looked like wood

'Cause the original steering wheel was the best danged wood imitation ever. Had me fooled for YEARS!

(And even knowing the "truth" I've got no desire to change wheels, and that's despite my being given a Momo that is still sitting in its box)

I found a MOMO Indy wheel online,that bolted right up to the 82 Spider hub.I love the look and feel of the wood wheel.

Simple answer - if it is wood, yes. If it isn't, no. Really hard to tell from a picture.

That is a stock plastic "faux wood" Spider steering wheel.

there was one for sale on Ebay in Oz where someone had actually recovered it in read wood, regret not buying it..even though I don't have a use for it...What I would really like is a late model steering wheel recovered in real wood, I can't find people who actually do that type of work over here????

Just pulled a Momo wooden wheel off a VW rabbit at the pick n pull for 5 bucks! The clear coat is flaked a bit and I've tried every chemical known to man to strip it with no luck. That's some tough stuff!

I kept the plastic/wood steering wheel from my '74, and may replace the one in my '81. I agree with you Don (DUCreditor). I like yours as well ga.spyder.

One of the things I love about the Spider is the wood in it. So why not have a wheel, even though it's not real wood, that matches the look and feel.
