Your trip report brought a smile to my face. You had all the right ingredients - wife, dog, fishing poles, what looks like a great stream, and you were kind enough to give a young fish some great experience so that he can better avoid the hook and grow to be real lunker!
And, of course, the car you can't bring yourself to sell, which made me recall dealing with a reluctant owner/seller many years ago...
Mark Allison recently bought the 124 BC coupe that belonged to Dorothy Klendenan, who was (is?) an editor at R&T Magazine (I may have that wrong - but it was a major car mag). The car was actually featured in a late 70's article (I may be wrong there, too

) that had to do with all the things you can do to preserve a car's useful life, and the magazine paid for a paint job on the coupe, which she had owned since new.
In the article she wrote about how the coupe had been neglected, sitting in the garage with flat tires/dead battery, etc, and how many times they had thought about selling it. But every time they decided to sell it, they would charge the battery, pump up the tires, drive it, and fall in love with it all over again. For years after that article appeared, way before the internet, I called and wrote Dorothy on a regular basis trying to get her to sell the car to me. Finally, sometime around 1989, she agreed to sell it to me. We were living in the SF Bay area, I had bought my airline ticket to go to LA to get it, and on the night before I left, she called and told me they had changed their minds after getting it ifired up and ready for me to drive up to SF and taken it for "one last spin". That's what these cars do.
I never did get that car, which I wanted because it was rust free, complete, and dead original. Maybe Mark can fill in the details.
