A-track or CD
A-track or CD
Im not sure what to do with the A-track i have in the car should i keep it so it will be stock or should i get rid of it for a CD player. I think im gonna go with a CD player but would that do anthing to the value of the car If i dont keep it stock.
Re: A-track or CD
Mine originally had a cassette- that only worked when the top was up, and
the passenger window open, if it was Tuesday, on an odd date.
Took out the cassette and put in a single cd.
Fits ok, sticks out a bit, but you really can't tell unless you're right
in front of it. New speakers and correctly grounded wires made all
the difference. The value to me has increased since I enjoy it all the more.
Especially since I can increase the volume to drown-out the noisey top!

Re: A-track or CD
it's actually an 8 track, and it won't hurt the value at all to remove it.
Re: A-track or CD
A-track? Do you mean 8 track.
Unless the car is in show quality, I wouldnt worry about it being stock. You know that people are passing on cd players because of iPods hooking up to the radios. I believe radios were put in by the dealers and not the factory though. I say, go with what makes your driving time happiest.

Re: A-track or CD
Does the 8-track still work? If so, then I'll give you something like $5 + shipping costs. I think that would be fun to have. I have a bunch of 8-track tapes somewhere.
Re: A-track or CD
8 tracks are a little before my time but if i can get the thing working i'll post it because i sure dont want it
Re: A-track or CD
$5 is all? Jeeze, you cheap-skate!! I'll give you $8, one for each track.
Mott the Hoople, The Lovin' Spoonful, and Golden Earring..... ahh, those were the days.
just kidding, on both accounts. You'd have to pay me to take it.

Re: A-track or CD
Silly Rabbit !! Mott the Hoople did not record on 45's.... only LP's and A-tracks. Pirated to cassettes by the adventuresome among us, and of course by Columbia Records.
Please forgive us Calebw as we wane nostalgic. We are not making fun of you. Agent K is our hero, needing to turn his White Album yet again into another medium. Some day, you too will make fun of the idea that your kids have no idea what a CD is.
Go for the CD player with the iPod jack. Sell the 8 track on Ebay for a miniature fortune to someone that cannot let go of the early 70's. The value of your Spider will be hurt not by the latest stereo equipment. Only the purist of the purists among the Fiat crowd will ever take note that you do not have a period correct radio. Remember, you will own and drive your car for a long long time, and sell it only once. Having a great radio will bring you pleasure for a long time. And, i need to be corrected, but did ANY spider come from the dealer with an 8 track?

Re: A-track or CD
OK, my 1984 Spider has a "Pininfarina Cassette Radio" which works, but not well. Do you think this was factory or dealer installed? Should I leave it in or update? I also have a few Hank Williams 8-Track tapes if anyone is interested! Maybe we could trade for Hank Williams cassette tapes? http://picasaweb.google.com/newhomesweet

Re: A-track or CD
I admit my knowledge on this subject is limited. Does that actually say pininfarina on the cassette door? I can't tell in the picture. It's neat looking, that's for sure.dwcars0 wrote:OK, my 1984 Spider has a "Pininfarina Cassette Radio" which works, but not well. Do you think this was factory or dealer installed? Re: A-track or CD
if you are looking for resale value (eventually) then pull the existing radio and keep it. when you go to sell the car, tell the buyer... "By the way, i have the factory original radio .. ready to put back into the car."
if you are looking to make a quick buck, pull the Pinin radio and sell it on EBay.
regardless.....pull it and put in an new technology radio for your listening pleasure. Get the enjoyment out of your car while you own and operate it.
yes, Dan. zoom in on that picture and see a Pinin badge on the front of the radio.

Re: A-track or CD
Dan. If you click on the picture and then go to slide show, its a bigger picture. No, it doesn't say Pininfarina, it just has the F logo. Dan
Re: A-track or CD
I had looked at the bigger version, but I just didn't catch the logo to the left of the cassette. That clears that up.dwcars0 wrote:Dan. If you click on the picture and then go to slide show, its a bigger picture. No, it doesn't say Pininfarina, it just has the F logo. Dan
