31 years to keep a promise

In 1981, my wife asked me to take her up the coast of California in our brand new red Spider. 31 years, two Spiders, living in two countries, making six moves with the military, living in 11 residences, being both poor and middle class, and raising two children later, we finally took that coastal drive in my 80 Spider last weekend. It was my car's first long distance shake down. 450 miles and about 10 hours of driving on freeways, coastal winding roads and in town. It ran flawlessly all the way! It may have taken a long time, but I kept the promise.

My wife really enjoyed herself too. It was like re-living our youth since our 81 was red with tan interior and my 80 is also red with tan interior. It was a reminder of how our love for each other and love for our Fiats has endured over the years.

We had such a good time answering questions about the car and both noted how nice the gas shocks make the car ride. It was a great memory for us both and something that we'll not forget. We're already talking about our next trip in the Spider together.

I think it would have happened sooner, but I think John Lennon said it best "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans."

Where did you go? Down HWY 1? Since we live on the coast, we drive down it quite often.

We drove from Lincoln to Alameda for the All Italian Car and Motorcycle Show, then spent the night in Scotts Valley at the Hilton (which was awesome by the way), then to Santa Cruz for lunch and a walk along the boardwalk. We then drove down Highway 1 almost to Big Sur, then back home. It was a great drive.

I went to that show last year, it had a nice variety of unique cars. Couldn't make it this year.
