Shift knob restore...
Re: Shift knob restore...
What kind of poly/stain spray do you use for this project. Color? Brand? Store where purchased? Steps taken? I'm definitely going to do the same with my shift knob. That color would match my custom steering wheel perfectly. thanks.
Re: Shift knob restore...
if you're talking about mine...
I sanded it down to the bare wood and used a wood cleaner/brightener to get the grease out of the wood. Then I sanded it again to a nice smooth finish.
I used minwax English Chesnut #233 as a stain put on with some blue shop towels
I then waited 24 hours and then re-sanded it as I found that I didn't get all the original varnish off
used stain again, but tried not to put as much on the top of the knob as I did previously. I found it was just a blob of red wood with no definition previously.
I then used about 7 or 8 coats (may do more) of minwax fast drying Polyurethane (clear gloss)
I found that I didn't have to do any sanding in between poly coats because of all the previous sanding I did.
Looks nice and the poly is sure easy to use since it's in an aeresol can.
