Carpet Installation

Post by supplyguy »

This goes into the category of "I should have paid better attention when removing the original". Gutted my interior and sealed the floor. New carpets have arrived. Is there a best sequence for installation i.e. floor before the sides, sides and tunnel before the floor etc?

Doing same thing this weekend. Carpet should come in today. I was thinking sides, transmission hub, back then floor pieces. Let me know if this is how you are doing it.

I did mine last year. Put the pieces back in the opposite order they came out. Going back in they went floor, then back then tunnel and sides.

The order just determines which edges show. Having the edges of the sides on top of the edges of the floor has worked fine for me. I don't get any fold-back or roll-up or anything, and the edges point down, so they are less visible to the eye. Having the edge of the floor section laying on top of the side pieces may be more visible (visible edges=bad).

Thanks guys. I was thinking the carpet would hold up better with a little extra carpet tucked under the bottom pieces. Now i see that a tight trim where the side obscures the sewn seams on the floor is better. I'll go heavy on the spray glue on those side section of carpet to hold tight to the side and cut/trim the carpet so the pieces are snug hiding any seams.

Glad this question came up at a good time. Carpet came in last night. :D :D

I bought some used carpet,I'm wondering if a person ever stuck the pieces in a commercial washer ?
And washed them

With my old ones, I put them on the ground and sprayed them with some carpet cleaner, then scrubed with a nylon bristle broom, then rinsed and it made a huge difference.

Simply hung them on a fence on a warm sunny day and they were fine  I would think that a washing machine would really beat down the carpets and comprimise the integrity of the fibres

If you happen to have a home carpet shampooer, it works great. really cuts down the drying time and helps keep the rug backing intact. You could do the same thing with the carpet shampoo, brush, and wet vac. I recommend spraying clear water/suck up with wet vac on the carpet after the shampoo process to get all the soap residue out of the carpet.
