NRG Wood steering Wheel up-date

[Im thinking of installing the NRG Classic wood steering wheel on my 1981 Fiat Spider Black/Tan Inter. Does anyone have one of these wheels in their car.Thanks Vinny

Just purchased NRG wood wheel from ebay photo to follow when i recieve it and install $170

nice look, also interested where you got that from, does the side spokes interfere with the view of the gauges?
From the pic it looks like the horn button is underneath it?

I would suspect you could do that to your steering wheel if you had any knowledge in wood working yourself...

I have been thinking about that, but no doubt if I add my time plus the timber and the amount of mistakes I'll make along the way sometimes it is easier to just buy it, I do often like the journey on most DIY builds but sometimes you just need the destination...sometimes....

I removed the center trim ring over horn No interference from spokes Purchased whell on e-bay for $100

great article on a DIY steering wheel. this dude did a gorgeous job. As a PRO WOODWORKER I do not have the confidence to do this project and he spells it out really well. I think its the compicated (to me) math involved. if anyone can figure it out mathematically and send me drawings i would attempt it and if it works i'll make you one.

my idea would be to use an oem early spider rim but to chrome plate the spokes...

the length of the piece is determined by the diameter of the steering wheel and the width of the wood. the cut is a 30 degree cut on both ends. the problem is each cut compounds the error, so you last cut will be custom. the easiest way to test your measurements is to cut in out of paper and tape it together first.

He seemed to know what he was doing and it still took 23 hours and cost $108. With my woodworking abilities, I would probably screw up several times, so I'd be better off spending whatever if cost to buy one. Pretty neat if you've got the skills, though.
