My new find

Well folks, I think I found my new project. I'v been looking for an early Spider and my dad ran across one . Its a 72 in decent shape other than needing a top and the seats redone. The rest of the interior is in good shape, not a blemish in the dash or consoles.



It also has American racing wheels with center caps




Why would someone paint these bumpers or did some come from the factory black?
I haven't talked to the guy that owns it because he is oot but my dad did and all we need to do now is nagociate a price.
Im thinking I can get it for around a thousand. So, What do y'all think?

Hmm.... well it's interesting-bumpered so I'm sold already.... actually - I kind of like that look with the black... Wheels don't don't do it for me though (and I've got a spare set of period steels if you'd like 'em!)

Usual suspects to check: Shock Towers, Cross member, Rockers, Firewall - does it run? etc etc....

Something is wrong here. I dont think thats a 72 with a lower front grille unless someone has changed it. I have a 73 and 74 and both do not have the lower grille till later 74 and 75. That being said its is going to need EVERYTHING so the cheaper the better. I wouldnt go over 800 if I were you. The bumpers were painted because of the chrome was bad Im sure. Look at the bumper mounts front and rear. Are they round or flat pieces of steel? Check VIN Number to match on title, door plate and under hood stamp and plate.

As stated take your screwdriver and start stabbing the shock towers and floors. lots can be covered up with undercoating.

is that one on the north side of lake o' the pines, dennis? looked at it a couple months back. lotsa rot in the sills and the floor. got the 1608, though. think he just stuck some sills over the rotted ones. wouldn't budge off 1200. got his number around here if you need it. been sitting awhile. ron.

Yep, that's the one. I looked at it yesterday as best I could without him there. I noticed the small hole by the driver side seat rail but Didnt pull a lot of the carpet back. I really wasn't going to tear into it until he was there. I don't mind something to work on if I can get it cheap enough. Before I make an offer I will have it checked out from one end to the other. If he doesn't come off 1200 he will have it for a long while. It was said he is now ready to get it gone. The door plate says 7-72. He said its a 73. He won't be back for a couple weeks so we will see. It does need a lot of work.

proceed with caution. there is lots to be nervous about with this one. rear bumpers on the front, nose is not original.

Because its nicer to be able to drive her once in awhile while you sort it out. Id rather be replacing light bulbs and worry where to find that last wrench in the tool kit right about now.

I have one that runs very well. Drive it everyday. I want an early model spider to modify as I See fit.I have a 2 l that I am going to build to the extent of my budget. I will make an offer that I see fits the condition of the car and let the chips fall where they may. I know what I want , it's just a scarce market for Spiders in my area.Thoughtq I had found a 72 in Minnesota but the snow melted too soon. I thought that front bumper looked a little strange.
