brake compensator valve

had some questions about my leaking brake compensator valve and i think i just posted my first pic. i'm thinking it's not the most important part of this post!

ok, about this leaking compensator valve. is there a mod to do away w/it? hard to rebuild? hard to adjust? only have the haynes manual to go by, and it appears kinda confusing. only seems to spit fluid out now and again and haven't had any panic stops so to speak. and yeah, let's hear all the comments about the little british cars and get it over with.

Congrats on the pic success. I love all cars so im good. You can order a new compensator valve or buy the hose that bypasses it. The choice is yours. If you replace it I would also suggest checking the bushings that connect the rod to the axle as they are usually gone or very loose. It works better if those are new too. I never had one bypassed so I cant comment on any braking difference. BTW your switch went out priority mail and you should have it on 3 days.

I sell a bypass hose if you want to do away with it. No adverse effects without the valve, and much easier to bleed the rear brakes

Mark I am putting on the whoa brake kit and was wondering your thoughts on keeping the bypass valve on or taking it off, considering the greater braking potential up front? Thanks

Why do you recommend bypassing the "poor man's ABS"? Do they simply not work as designed?

"poor man's abs" is quite the compliment for that system, lol. I feel the car has better braking without the compensator. Now that most of them are 40 years old, I see lots of them that are seized. If your car is lowered, it's not going to work anyway. I've yet to see a Spider that locked up the rear brakes without having the compensator

Much as I don't disagree with Mark re: seized compensators... when they are working as they should - they're pretty effective. Stop you locking up the rear wheels in the wet under heavy braking!
