Painting Interior

Post by davery »

Anyone ever painted their interior? I am thinking my interior needs a little freshening up. The plastic, vinyl and leather are all tan, but different shades. I also need to purchase a couple of interior panels, but they only come in black. So, has anyone every done this? If so, what brand did you use?

I did my entire interior over, with rattle can vinyl dye paint, as follows:

Arm wrests were originally tan, dyed black
Door panels were originally tan, dyed grey.
Center consoles were badly faded original tan, dyed black,
Upper door panels were black, replaced wth new vinyl,
dashboard re-veneered, steering wheel spokes painted,
new insulation, carpets, coco mats etc.
Black dash itself was ok so just cleaned,
seats reupholstered by NOT me.

I am happy with the dye job, but it is a little delicate and I biffed it in a couple of places when re-installing the consoles, so they will need some touchup, but overall it is holding up well enough. I put on quite a few coats, maybe 4 or so on each piece. I can't stress enough that it is important to use the "Prep Spray" that is recommended by the rattle can manufacturers ( I used "Duplicolor" from Auto World/Zone/Parts/Universe, wherever)

This is the colour you need. As near as dammit to the original colour.Image

And no, I didn't use it to paint the engine!
My two cents ain't worth what it used to be
