Ours found the edge of the bedroom carpet where it joins the tile. By the time we saw it she had 2 feet of carpet in shreds.
Oh, and house breaking is a joy as well. Just glad we all survived it. Over a year old now and magically transformed to a great dog.

I had a german sheppard that chewed thru everything in the house. window screen, carpet, furniture, chewed the doggy door right out of the wall. put the dog in homemade pvc tube kennel. dog destroyed that in less than a day. went to a kennel with sides like refrigerator shelves. dog chewed thru that. had to reinforce it with 1/8" plate to keep the door locked up. also had to use locks because the dog figured out how to open the latches from the inside. Solution....get another dog. I soon as she had a companion, all the nonsense stopped.

I did not buy a pet to kennel him/ her, every one told me that I needed too

I thought you were referring to a place that boards pets, you know like the ones who are supposed to take care of them while you are away. I have the type of kennel were talking about but only use it when I'm trying to raise ducks or chicks up to a survivable size.
