dash renovation

Post by mbouse »

Alright. Too cold to go Fiating, and the yard work can wait 'til another day....and if i wait long enough, maybe someone else will do it.

So, how did you spend your weekend? Here's what I did: http://webpages.charter.net/mbouse/dash ... vation.pdf

Good work, Mike. I've got one of those voltage gauges. I'd like to eventually exchange my worthless clock for it. I'll have to wait for another catastrophic electrical failure before I attempt screwing with all those wire any time soon.
I've been working on taking a 72 Fiat apart. My goal is to get it stripped except for the engine/tranny before Ron gets home so he can help me pull them out and I can send it to be beadblasted. I hope he doesn't cut his trip short or he'll be filing divorce papers. I've got two bays in the shop cluttered with Fiat parts. Here's pics of my soon to be racecar:

Rey, after seeing your flower-mobile I'd expect you to ask about a brother

Ouch Mark! I would think that flower-mobile would be a babe magnet.
Rey, I've got three sisters and none of them like to get their hands dirty. I don't know what went wrong with me. :?

D, if you're building a race car you must have a flame retardant driving suit. You would just have to wear it all of the time

I admire your inginuity, I am still deciding if I like it better than stock, I bet it looks even better in person on in car :|

a related issue: I have always been bothered by the top of the wood dash pieces that are left unstained from the factory (at least in the later models). It looks unfinished. Your pictures in the link show just what I am talking about.

I've always thought the same thing about the edges. I can only assume that when the cars were new the wood fit into the dash and hid the edges

I believe the edges were painted black from the factory but the paint didn't hold up very well.

my board edges were painted RED, and faded or disappeared over time.

drove the car to work this a.m. Man what a difference those to gauges make! it was actually a new-experience fun drive to see some information ... and changing information based on what the car and engine were doing at the time.

time well spent.
