With a rare cool day and the wifey visiting with an out of town friend, I played hooky and took a road trip to Tortilla Flat. (picture in your mind what a place in Arizona called Tortilla Flat would look like, and you've probably got it right

). This is the longest outing for the spider to-date....a little over 3 hours. 2 of that on the freeways doing 75 (speedo was reading 79...dont think i was going that fast). Side windows up, wings opened about 3/4"...with the rear screen, the speed was pretty civilized. Once on the road (hiway 88) it narrows to 2 lane 50 mph speed limit til the edge of the canyon. Once you start down, the paved road gets very rough as the top layer of asphalt was disintegrating fast. Speed limit drops to 25 with a string of blind 15 mph corners with a drop off on one side that would be death defying to say the least. A surprising amount of traffic that kept most of the trip below speed limit. I did manage to break free by stopping and taking pictures and then seeing how long it took to catch up. The final stretch into Tortilla Flat was downhill twisties with no one in front of me, so pushed the car hard til I got to the one way bridge. At Tortilla Flat were 7 cop bikes parked in a row. Had their riders been outside, I'm sure i would have attracted plenty of attention. Car performance was great. Lots of tire grip, even on the rough roads, rear sway bar was a dream, keeping the nose from pushing out. Hunkered down and bit in good on the tight corners. Lots off fun, nothing rattled off the car, no rocks, no close calls. I very good day.
