Hot floor from Tranny

Post by Torxx »

I have read archived post on the heat issue, and was hoping to open the discussion again. I have the carpet and old pad out. I was out on a drive on a cool evening and noticed a lot of heat radiating from the transmission area, including the floor near the transmission. I did not remove the original padding around the tranny. Does this work well for heat containment, or should I remove and replace with different material. I plan to put down dynamat type material on the floors.
I was also wondering if it is feasible to put some kind of heat blanket around the top of the tranny itself to keep heat from entering the cockpit?

for the most part, there is room between the top of the tranny tunnel and the center console. fitment gets a little scarce betweent he sides of the tunnel and the center console.

by looking at your picture.... now is the time to give it a try.

or, are you talking about actually covering the transmission? uhh, what are you gonna use that won't attract, trap and absorb moisture....? which, as we all know is the leading cause of automobile cancer.

Hi -

some folks round here did start to build enhanced covers for the gearbox:

There is even a kit around:

The seller clains that, due to the fact that 30% more oil is in the gearbox the temperature would come down by 50 degrees C... well, don't know that but it sounds being a good idea to me

The fins on that cover would significantly cool the oil. Same principle as the heat sinks on computer processors.
