So cruising along the next day and about 35 miles from Columbus, the sky just opens up dumping so much rain you could not see the front of the car. We barely made it to an overpass to put the top up in time, nearly getting run over by a semi truck as he couldn't see either. Fortunately our son has quick reflexes and steered us further off the road. Got to our daughters about an hour later after the rain had passed. That was a scary scary moment when the truck went by so close.
I stayed Saturday night and flew home on Sunday. His girlfriend arrives tomorrow afternoon/evening and they are to resume his journey to San Francisco and his new job this coming Sunday the 6th.
While visiting in Columbus he decides to tackle the passenger side control arm job and possibly the drivers side ( read need to make more room in the trunk for girl friend items)

All goes well - learning much along the way until taking it for a test drive. What's that squeaking noise. Pulls over, steam coming from the front hub. Car goes back to the garage and back on the jack stands. Right front wheel seems to turn all albeit slowly and not as nicely as it should. Off comes the tire, popped the bearing cap. Hmmmmm looks a bit dry, keyed washer is broken. Remove nut. Bearing won't come out and now needs a big gear puller to get the hub off. In the mean time he has purchased a complete wheel bearing set. Hoping the spindle is not scored or damaged. More progress tomorrow as a friend of a friend brings over the needed tools.
New 95 amp Alternator arrives and is installed, of course with modifications to associated brackets. Hope this cures the charging problem. Grounds all looked good and connection wires all tested out as well with no problems.
More to follow....... What a lucky thing we made it to Columbus before the wheel bearing gave up the ghost.....
