Blower fan 1977 cs1
Only the fast speed works on my heater blower fan, the switch is new and the wiring seems sound, could the fault be with the fan motor unit? I have not removed the motor for inspection yet but does anyone know if the motors are often at fault?
Re: Blower fan 1977 cs1
if the motor runs on high, it's okay. Look at either the switch or resistor

ah thank you, I assume the resistor sits on the back of the motor?
Re: Blower fan 1977 cs1
always check the easiest thing first.
the switch is right there, out in the open. pry it out of the console and by-pass the switch from the hot wire to one, then the other wire. you most likely will get high and low fan speeds.......replace the $6.50 switch.
much easier than tearing out the fan motor and locating a resistor.
i bet lunch it is either the switch or the wiring and not the motor or resister.

Mike, does your hat have the expandable band? Or will you have to buy a new one in a larger size?
Nice call.

pre-computer cars are fairly easy to diagnose electrical issues. add a computer and i walk away, shaking my head.
ALWAYS suspect a faulty ground, and ALWAYS try the easiest things first. if it was designed to move (switch) it has prolly failed after 30 some years of rocking back and forth.

those blower switches are so cheap, 30 minute life is more likely than 30 yrs
