I'm not alone anymore.
I was talking to Denise on my way to work this morning and stopped at a stop light when a black Spider pulled up along side of me. I must have busted her eardrum when I yelled "Hey! A Spider!" I've only seen one other Spider in my area and that was a year before I got mine. I told the guy I had an '82, and he said his was a '79, then the light turned and he took off before I could ask him his name and number or give him this forum information. Dang. I hope I run into him again.

Re: I'm not alone anymore.
I saw an orange one on the way to a town about 45 minutes away from my house the other day. Then today, when I was dropping my little brother off at his friend's house, I had to turn around, chose a random driveway, pulled in, and lo and behold, straight ahead of me was a little yellow spider, a bit rusty, just sitting there. I started beaming and honked for no reason, I think nobody was home. It was still nice to see though!

Re: I'm not alone anymore.
This must be the season, because I had two sitings this week. First, I was at Lowes picking up some light bulbs (in my Spider) and I saw a white one parked in the lot. I parked next to it creating what I am certain is the largest Fiat gathering ever at the Canton, Ohio Lowes store. When I came out it was still there, so I waited a while for the owneer to turn up, but they never did and I had to leave. I didn't have anything to write with or i would have left a note.
Then, just yesterday, I was filling up my daily driver at the gas station and saw a black one pull in. He said it was a '78 and he has owned it for 26 years. I didn't get his e-mail or anything, but he told me about where he lives -- which is very close to me. So I'm sure I will see him again.
Ron, if you think it' rare to see a Spider where you live in California, try a state where the roads are covered with salt for four months out of the year! They have all rusted off the road long ago. And to spot two in one week -- pretty cool.

Same. I live in Upstate New York. Kind of rare. Alot of classic cars around here though, seen a couple MGBs, a spitfire, TR6, old Austin Healy and an old Aston Martin driving around lately. I live in a very small town too.kristoj wrote:

Salt on the roads. Yuck.
We do have issues in California, but rust isn't one of them.
It is kind of a special feeling running into another Spider. Nothing I enjoy more than the group runs we go on.

Re: I'm not alone anymore.
Still no spiders anywhere around here.
Lots of conversations like this:
People: "hey, my (brother, father, neighbor, co-worker) used to have a car JUST like that."
Me: (because i don't even ask if it was a spider anymore) "Well, probably an MG, mines Italian, not British"
People: "yeah, an MG, that's what it was, but it looked just like that"
the following is potential end of conversation that has never actually taken place
Me: (resisting urge to 'school them') "Well have a nice day in your taurus"
People: "it's not a Taurus, its a civic"
Me: "oh, well it looks just like one"

Y'all... I haven't seen another spider in Arkansas since I sold my original 73 back in 1983
Re: I'm not alone anymore.
all of you in no-spider land should buy up a few, fix them up and sell them locally
Re: I'm not alone anymore.
There is two other guys with spiders in my sub, one of them has two spiders and another one just before you turn in the sub. That might be a record! And dont forget mine!

Re: I'm not alone anymore.
This is most interesting! It's the same here in Tulsa... I get stopped every once in a while and they say I had one of those.. Great car! This one guy at a car show was talking to me and he said "I'll bet your Spyder could outrun this one" as he points to a Cobra kit car with a 302 in it. I just smiled and nodded...... I do know a shop where there are about 3 Spyders sitting in their yard, along with some MGB's and such they look in better shape than mine! I have been curious about them but I have no $$ or place to put one so I'll just keep being curious I suppose! I think I might have seen one the other day near downtown in a driveway. I'll have to go check that out soon!
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

Re: I'm not alone anymore.
i see spiders a couple times a week sometimes around here. i drive all over for work, so i always come across someting new. theres a guy i see with a boattail alfa on a regular basis, just blocks from me. ran into an ol guy at the walmart, he saw my fiat shirt and started up a conversation. he has four ol gtv,s. spiders are common sitings for me, its the alfas and lancias that are rare around here. just yesterday i ran across a zagato. been sitting for a while i was told, i left my number when someone told me the guy was ready to sell it. it was clean but has engine problems. dont know what they are, but thats an easy fix. now ill just wait for the calll..
Re: I'm not alone anymore.
yeah, right, what would really happen is that I'd have to build a 4,000 square foot shed and get a divorce because I wouldn't be able to part with them!So Cal Mark wrote:all of you in no-spider land should buy up a few, fix them up and sell them locally
