Which carpet manufacturer?

Keeping it sharp - paint, wax, detailing, etc.

Which carpet manufacturer?

Post by BammBamm »

It's time to start the interior. I really like the factory look off the loop pile in nice strait lines. Whose carpet kit has carpet like that? AR, Vick, stockinteriors.com? I want the nicest look and best fit

Lots of opinions on carpet here on the forum. I'd dig through some of that. I would also contact whoever you're considering and ask for a small sample, especially if something other than basic black. I just received a new set of black carpet floor mats from AR and they look nice and heavy and fit well.

could you post a close up picture of the carpet? Other wise I might just make my own. I found these guys
http://www.albrightssupply.com/Loop-Car ... p/c601.htm
and a local carpet shop will bind it for me for $1.75 a foot.

I went to an auto reupholstery shop and had it done from scratch. I managed to find an exact match to original carpet. Perhaps a bit more...don't know for sure...but now that it's done I'm really glad I did it that way. It looks perfect!

Some of the carpet kits out there are made from some pretty thin material so watch out. The previous owner replace the carpet in mine before I bought it and its pretty light weight. The plus is that it dries out pretty quickly if I get caught out in a sudden downpour. I am pretty sure he said it was the economy carpet from International Auto Parts but mentioned he got it from their local store in Orlando so I am not sure if that is the same as the IAP known to this forum.

Not sure of your budget, but if you Google "German square weave auto carpet", you'll see some nice stuff.

I tried a kit from Vick's and didn't have much luck. http://www.vickauto.com/newstore/index. ... ts_id=2880 The kit seemed too small and stiff to actually work - or provide the kind of fitment I was after. When I spoke to them they advised the kit was a 'floating' kit and that fitment might have gaps, etc.. I didn't know this when I bought the thing. I will say the kit seems very well built, but the poor fitment was what killed it for me.

I found a kit at Midwest Bayless for just a little more than the Vicks kit: https://www.midwest-bayless.com/Fiat-12 ... 2-new.aspx. This kit was perfectly sized and fit exactly as I'd hoped and expected. I will say, however, the edging/trim they used seemed to pull away from the carpet easily - a quality issue I complained about but not worth returning as I'm running out of time with this project.

When I do my next resto I'm going to match material and build a kit myself.

Trying to figure out the puzzle that is Vick's carpet kit. Biggest problem is all edges have a 1/2" round binding that makes it nearly impossible to get a proper fit between the seat rails and tunnel, and forget about it fitting under the stainless door threshold trim. I wish that I had bought the carpet stock and cut it myself.

Speaking of Vick's beware of the 3-piece 2-1/4" header/center pipe/muffler set. There was absolutely no way the center pipe will not drag the ground. I had to get a local muffler shop to bend a center pipe with a resonator...you'll need the resonator unless you're longing for the old days of Thrush glass-pack mufflers and weekly citations for excessive noise.

Ill have a report on the autoricambi set soonish. Its in drop ship transit- but the other bits I have received from them (door panels and rear panels) seem top notch so I am hoping for good things. I'll post pics upon arrival.
