Cup Holders

Post by davery »

I have been struggling for years to find a place to mount cup holders. I used to have the plastic ones that hung off the windows, but didn't really like the look. I think these may do the job.

Much more work but I relocated everything in the center of the dash to the area below the radio and installed the cup holders you are using in the center of the dash.

I thought about doing that. I actually bought a slide out dual cup holder, but on the 83-85 dash there isn't enough room. I'm actually moving the smaller gauges to the upper center dash.

Sorry I didn't notice you have a 1985. I think you have the best solution mounting it to the seat.

I like the seat solution quite a bit. When not in use they're almost invisible. Plus, if there were to be a spill you've got an excellent chance of keeping it contained to the floor mats and off the wood.

Adding that on to my wish list. Thanks for sharing!

I thought about mounting the cup holders here also. I just purchased new panels without speaker cutouts and it seemed wrong to drill holes. I also though of mounting them on the front part of the door, but it seemed to be in the way when the door was closed.

Davery, please report back after you've had a chance to use the cup holders a bit. I'm curious to hear how you like the location.

But without the map pockets where do you keep your vent window latches?

I still have my map pockets, but have no vent window latches. Mostly because I have no vent windows.

I solved 2 problems at the same time. I wanted an armerest so I made one and made a slide out cup holder into it. I mounted the armrest using the same bolts that anchors my seat belts. I stole the cup holder idea from a friend who has a corvette. It pulls out when I need it aND slides back in when not needed.

Can you post a couple picks for us? That sounds really cool.

Here are pics of the arm rest/cupholder. it sets on top of the lower console and straddles the drive shaft hump. It is secured by the bolts that secure the seatbelts to the drive shaft hump. You may have to get longer bolt.

Looks like an interesting project and still allows use of the parking brake and heater controls.
