I had new "after-market" carpeting installed in a restoration. Unfortunately, it was really cheap stuff. The carpeting bunches up under the pedals. This has become unsafe. Is there a way to stiffen or reinforce the carpeting? Should I just replace it ?

The original carpets were screwed down in the corners. Some people glue them down.

Thanks,
I like the idea of a solid tie-down; but screws = more holes and potential for another spot for rust to begin. What sort of glue would work?

My original carpets were only screwed down at the upper front corners, at the firewall. Maybe you could reinforce them with a layer of rubber mat, stapled all around the perimeter. There should be a rubber mat as part of the carpet from your heel forward as well, which shouldn't bunch up under the pedals.

I used 3M spray adhesive. Spray it on, wait about 30 seconds and then put carpet in place. Holds well but still allows removal if needed.FiatJim wrote:Thanks,

I used Velcro. I glued the one piece of velcro to my new fatmat floor insulation. The opposing Velcro I sewed into the back of my floor carpet. I did this in several areas on all carpet pieces. You just have to make sure you have everything lined up where you glue and sew. Now I can remove at ease if I need to clean or dry the carpet. I think I have six pieces of velcro on the biggest carpet pieces. It does take a good needle and some effort to get through the carpet.

3M Super77 works really well. Took me some tries for the trickier parts, but waiting 30 sec for it to set is right.rjkoop wrote:I used 3M spray adhesive. Spray it on, wait about 30 seconds and then put carpet in place. Holds well but still allows removal if needed.FiatJim wrote:Thanks,
