On the original cars there is a little stop on the drivers side under the gas pedal. The carpet is actually notched to go around it. On many cars this is a rust spot or has been repaired (like mine) and the stop is not there.
My gas pedal reaches WOT about an inch above the floor and I don't want to break the cable during "spirited driving" so I want to put in a new stop of some sort. Has anyone else fabricated something like this? Pictures of descriptions?

No replies so here is what I came up with:

Took a furniture foot on a 1/4 20 threaded rod and a 1/2 inch sleeve with a bolt and a rubber shock mount and washers I had laying around. Drilled hole in floor for bolt from underneath. Inboard, washer followed by nut followed by threaded sleeve. Rubber spacer, next washer, a locking nut and thread in the furniture foot / stop. I happened to choose a tan one to sort of match the carpet. Voila, an adjustable height gas pedal stop. Had the wife make sure the throttle was wide open at the carb, spun it out to meet the pedal and locked it down.
Note the furniture pad in the car has a much longer shaft than the one pictured as I trimmed the first one too short. The one in the car is long enough for a locking nut between it and the upper big washer. Painted the washers black before installing.
The only thing I did sort of wrong was position the whole thing to high up as the notch in my floor carpet bunches up. I'll have to drill a new hole about 1/2 " down and plug up the first one when I am feeling energetic but overall pleased with the results. Plus as things settle in (new cable and newly mounted pedals) I can adjust the stop to compensate.

Well, first, define later. I have a 78. My pedal has a tang that is definitely a stop (you can see it in the first photo) but with a new throttle cable and aftermarket progressive carb I was finding I was at WOT with the pedal still ~1 inch off the floorboard. Didn't want to put all that stress on the cable and carb linkage so I fabricated a stop. Perhaps this is unique to my setup?

They do, my '80 has one. But it also has the plastic cylindrical barrel stop attached to the floor. I had to trim the carpet out of the way and still need to see if the throttle will go wide open when it hits the stop. The cylindrical barrel stop on the floor is held on with a single screw down its center and it could be removed and cut down if needed to get the throttle to open more widely.chrisg wrote:I thought the later pedals have a stop built into the back of the pedal.

Years ago a friend and I both had similar E-type Jaguars. He drove mine one day and was very surprised "how much more power it makes". Ensuring that the travel of the gas pedal actually results in WOT is a very easy task and one that is often overlooked. It should be done today if you haven't done it and checked every six months or so as cables stretch.
