I ordered one of these to replace the totally crumbling guibo in my 1100R.

On the ends of all the holes this piece has little "flanges" which sit proud of the surface. The original was totally flat on the ends. I believe this is causing a problem and would like to know if my theory makes sense. When I install and tighten the new one these little flanges create "bows" that alternate in direction so the entire thing is zig zagged as it travels around.
I cannot for the life of me understand why the part would be made this way so I am second guessing my theory.
The installation is exactly like a Spider, the bolts alternate side to side and there are longer ones on one side than the other.
Does my theory make sense or am I doing something else wrong?
Mr Fiat also has this one which IS flat at the holes but Ive never seen one like this before...
