replacing my front shocks on my 79. Using slightly used shocks off of a 81 model 124.
They appear to be the same size/length. however I'm having trouble getting them on? any tips?

Re: front shocks
okay. I have the lower bolt in (in the lower control arm). However, the top of the shock (the stud) is just barely sticking through the top mount hole. And the one rubber bushing is still approx 1 inch (lower) from the mount hole area.
I have replaced the upper and lower control arms with a new set that I purchased at IAP some years ago.
Then, if I hold the top shock stud, in the upper hole, I can get the rubber bushings on, and nut started, however, then I cannot get the lower shock mount bolt holes to line up with the holes in the lower control arm. They are approx 1 inch from where they need to be.

Secure the top nut. Put a floor jack under the lower control arm then jack up the lower arm until the hole lines up.

I ended up installing a Mr Gasket shock tower extention bolt onto the shock tower stud.barnesjtsl wrote:Secure the top nut. Put a floor jack under the lower control arm then jack up the lower arm until the hole lines up.
