Another season about to start

Post by narfire »

Been a while since last post but now I'm collecting CPP I'm cashing out of my business and going to try this retirement thing...
So starting to sell some of my equipment at the sawmill( building and property is still for sale) and with some of the funds going to give my little Fiat some love...
Having a little custom cut sawmill I'm trading some board and baton for new paint in a month or so. I have a few bubbles and the front hood has paint lifting and looks gross. Painting it... yeup red ( again) but likely a darker red. Was Porsches Guards red.
Insured it yesterday and after charging the battery it started first second of turning the key. last start was in November.
Interior is a bit rough, carpet would be nice. Dash lights have to be sorted. perhaps some new tires ( 205/50's) a bit later. Going to order the 500 brakes and a few other bits from Allison's. Temp sensor or thermostat has to be checked out and replaced if the temp keeps going over 190 while in the Tim's line up.
For the owners in BC/ Vancouver area that need parts, I have a ton of bits for sale. Thing is though I don't have the time or patience ( sorry) to do the shipping thing. Pop by while partaking in a wine tasting tour and do both of us a favor and take this stuff back with you. VERY reasonable prices. Have a car hauler? I have a 81 rust free shell as well. Needs running gear ( Have that stuff as well). Gaps seem good at the doors and hood/trunk.
Looking forward to driving the car this year but I also LOVE driving my 2017 Golf R as well ( DSG). I'll have a 72 coming on line soon( with 34 dmsa) and will drive that for a bit to make sure bugs are out before selling it.
Hoping for a trouble free year of Fiat driving for everyone this year.

Welcome back, Chris. I was wondering where you'd gotten to. Also welcome to retired life. If you're like some of us, you'll find so much to do you'll wonder how you ever found time to work!

Yep, agree with courtenay, have a thousand things to do, but have to work again tomorrow. Congrats on the retirement, planning on Nov for myself.

Welcome to the retired life Chris. With your new CPP budget you'll learn to be patient and prioritize - no more deadlines! :)
Good luck getting the Spider back on the road and finishing your projects.

Best of luck with your Spider. Keep us up to date.

Hi Chris,
Welcome back. Retirement is great! Are you by any chance a golfer? I visit my sister up in Kamloops every summer and always try to get in a half dozen or so rounds.

HI Chris
Welcome to retirement! My standard answer when asked how I like retirement is "hasn't been a single day I thought it was a bad idea". Since you're asking. Do you have a good windshield frame?

Thank you for the good wishes.
Regarding the windshield frame, how many do you want? : )
Just ordered some parts from Allison's and looking at the Continental extreme sport tires to go on the Sportiva 66 replicas in silver. Love the conti's on the VW. Going to take that car to the new track just south of us this spring sometime.
Sorry, not much of a golfer. I do get out once a year but rarely finish the 18 holes, bored after 13 and beer has pretty much run out. Bag can only carry so much.
Bought a Cat skid steer and Cat 303 mini ex. to do some work around the house.( retaining wall and shop) neighbor's have already mentioned they will look after our cats when we are away...
Looking forward to getting the 72 on the road. Real close now. Not sure if the 34 dmsa is going to work as the carb kit today is a bit limited.
I don't think we'll get bored in retirement, tons of stuff to do around here.
can't wait for the car to get out of paint in a month or so.

Hi Chris,
hmmm, gotta go to revelstoke in the next few months, wine tour at naramata sounds like the right plan! We can discuss my madness retirement plan to restore fiats and build boats here in Vancouver. Just have to buy the double garage and shack. Might be able to open your branch office!
Looking for some 14" wheels for my car by the way.
Oh and the contis are nice, hve them on my audi A3
cheers

HI Chris, I only need 1 frame (at least at this point) and am actually at Skaha this week and heading to Kelowna next week. Are you around Saturday? Give me a call on my cell if you want 250-203-7707
