Stalls

After a long period of trouble free driving my car started acting up this morning on the way to work.

When stopped I have a hard time getting it going without stalling the engine. It would backfire and pop, lurch forward and die...

And all of this came out of the blue, with no warning.

Any thoughts on where to start looking for my problem once I’ve limped it home?

Sounds like the sensor on the coolant tee, I had mistakenly left off the connection, idled like hell, smoked.

I think you guys were right.

The Open All Night AutoZone had a coolant tee sensor that was similar to the one in my car so I rolled the dice. Luckily for me it worked well enough to limp the car home, saving it from a $53 overnight stay in an unfamiliar parking lot in an undesirable neighborhood.

I keep a small roadside toolkit in the trunk for just this reason... it has saved me a couple times now.

After limping home that night I replaced the coolant T sensor with one made for the Spider but my problems didn't go away... in fact they got worse.

Long story short, I think the senosr started to fail during an autotuning session and as a result something got corrupt in the tune saved to my car. Hopefully that was alleviated by loading a known good tune.

This weekend I was able to start the car with no problems at all, but didn't have time to take it on a test drive.
