New owner in london, 1978 1995cc 2000. 150,000th model off the line

Hi Guys,

It's an utter pleasure to be on this forum, I've just bought a built in december 1978 Carb'd 1995cc spider 2000.
Although a 78 everything looks to be 79 onwards stuff.
And very happily it's the 150,000th model off the line and all the stamps confirm this as well as a letter from Fiat. it has special badges on the side that say 150,000. I believe it was exported from Oklahoma in the early 90's to England. I cant wait to chat to you all.

Welcome and enjoy the group, there is a wealth of good info here.
I understand your comment re 78 and 79.....I have two early 79's and both seem to have a few 78 parts while mostly being 79.

I don't know if you have the original carb manifold stuff ….i hope so for originality, but i hope not for performance reasons!

One question, are you willing to share your vin number? i am curious to do the math and figure out which number off the assembly line my two cars were.

The 150.000th Spider must be produced End of 1978? Is it really the chassisno. 124CS20150000?

I remember a picture from the Pininfarina plant celebrating the 150.000th Spider! It was published in the german book "Das grosse Spider Buch" from Eberhard Kittler, the german bible over our car!

Interestingly i just did some sleuthing at both Ralf' site fiatspider.de and Mirafiori and found the following

Mirafiori claims the first serial number for a CS2 was 142649. I don't believe that since i have 142519 built in 78-07

The spider register that Ralf maintains has a 142542 also built in 78-07

Jeromes 150000 was built in 78-12. Some simple math suggests that approximately 1500 cars a month or 30/day were made between July and December that year. Looking at the dates in Ralf's register that seems to correlate reasonably well as well.

So interestingly it appears i have the oldest CS2 registered, and even my other one 142707 is also very early.

Does anyone have a number older than 142519??? or even know if it existed? I almost suspect that they might have started with 142500, but can not prove it.

Last listed CS1 1800 models have following serial numbers:
- 124CS10142014
- 124CS10142504
- 124CS10143064 (potentially wrong?!)

Welcome to the forum from me and number 56,422
Mine is a 1972 BS1 1608cc which I've owned since summer 2018 when I imported from Switzerland (don't want to do that again!)

I've found this US based forum to be much more active and helpful than sporting fiats club online.co.uk, probably because there are thousands of spiders in US and only around 30 or so in UK (by my rough reckoning). What sort of condition is yours in ? Post a photo.
You may already have realised that easiest place for parts is Middle Barton Garage in Bicester who have lots of stock and get anything they haven't from Spider-point.com in Germany.

I took mine to Goodwood Revival last year and this, but wherever you go you're very unlikely to see another old Spider. I live in Hampshire and went to the All Italian Car meet in Alton at http://www.thedepartureloungecafe.co.uk ... ar-sunday/ earlier this year which had modern 500's, Ferraris and Maseratis together with some nice old Alfa's and Lancia's and 2 FIAT 128 Sport Coupes but no Spiders. There's an Italian car day at Brooklands and Brands Hatch most years I think.
