Time to back off a bit

Guys, it's in my nature to be helpful and answer questions, but it hasn't been lost on me in the last few months that a significant percentage of the recent posts are by "18Fiatsandcounting", so I have decided to back off a bit. Time to let others get a word in edgewise, and time for me to take a break. But, I'm still around so feel free to PM me with questions, and I'll continue to answer posts where I think I have something of value to offer.

It has always been the case here that a small portion provide the bulk of the content, and I expect that this is normal in all these formats. The field has changed incredibly over the years! I like to pipe in a lot, but I fear that I get it wrong so often that I may be doing more harm than good.... So we need the knowledgeable to speak up, and I hope you will stick around, AND that others will add more content themselves. I think that many people may be shy, or are afraid of being wrong, making a mistake. But mistakes and errors are how we learn and move forward. I encourage all to speak out, set your fears aside and share what you may have, with everyone. Except that damned virus of course.

Thanks Pete. I guess I am just sensitive (perhaps overly so) to the issue. Maybe an artifact of my occupation where it was my job to quickly answer questions as best I could, often with incomplete information. I often compared my job to the "Whack-a-Mole" game at the county fair. Keep bangin' them down, as they keep coming!

Anyway, I'm not going anywhere, and I still learn a lot from others on this forum. I'll just make an effort to let others chime in with their input before I go ahead and try to answer everything.

Could also be just frustration with old things needing continuous attention: I fix the '71 spider, and something on the '69 spider breaks. I fix the '69, and something on the '69 Chevy truck breaks. I fix the '69 truck and something on the Jag XJ6 breaks. I fix the Jag, and my wife needs me to fix a toilet valve. I fix that, and my knee starts bothering me. My knee gets better, and something on my bicycle breaks. Rinse, wash, repeat. I think you see the picture...

Bryan - I sympathize. My favourite expression with my brother over email is TAS - There's Always Something. Whether it's the house or one of my cars, something always comes along to relieve the boredom. Frankly I'd be bored stiff if nothing needed to be fixed or maintained. I can only read so many books, and now with the library closed, I can't even do that. So just sit back and be entertained by the rest of us, until you can't resist setting us straight! Cheers.

Thanks again guys, for the support. My goal is to acquire an early 50s Jaguar XK120, but that would leave me with a 50s Jag, a '69 Fiat, a '71 Fiat, a '69 Chevy, and my bicycle. Guess which one is most reliable, at least for short distances?

I've always liked the Mark II "Inspector Morse" Jag. There's one that shows up every year at our local vintage show. The owner's principal hobby is woodworking, and he's restored the wood trim to Beyond Category.

I'm delighted with the fit, finish and materials of my late-model XJ, but there's very little maintenance and repair that I can do myself.
