Hi all,
I've decided to replace the dual points setup on my '76 Spider with an electronic ignition.
I am trying to decide between the Pertronix 9MR-LS1 Ignitor II and the MR-LS1.
Does anyone have experience with both of these?
Is there a significant performance / reliability advantage with the 9MR-LS1?
I know the 9MR-LS1 has "Adaptive Dwell Control" which sounds lovely but is it a noticeable advantage?
With the MR-LS1 I can use the coil that I have now, with the 9MR-LS1 I'll need to buy a different coil.
Any thoughts? Thanks guys.

These are all junk. I've had both and I don't like either of them.
Get yourself:
1979 Distributor (factory electronic) $130 at AR
GM HEI Module $20 on RockAuto
New Coil $20 on Rockauto
Some sort of Heatsink (doesn't have to be the painfully overpriced Fiat one)
Spend an hour wiring it up and adjusting timing.
Much better. My personal hierarchy is OEM Electronic > Aftermarket Programmable > Aftermarket > Points.

Thanks Stein, I'm not sure why I was stuck on Pertronix.
So the '79 distributor will fit my '76?

Re: Pertronix 9MR-LS1
My only negative experience with a Pertronix ignition was with a marine engine. The problem was intermittent starting. Speaking with Pertronix technical support I found the unit needed more than 10 volts to operate properly. When an engine is cranking to start with less than fully charged battery it is possible for the ignition components to be operating in the 10 volt area. One might expect if the engine cranks the ignition should work.
I think the Magneti Marelli solid state ignition works with low voltage. I know my 1981 Spider has started with the engine cranking pretty slow.
