Stellantis - Peugeot/Fiat/Chrysler #4 automaker

Post by TX82FIAT »

Stellantis - Well, it's been pretty quite around here with the newest merger announced last week. New Stock Symbol STLA for the 4th largest automaker in the world. Seems like the news has missed reporting a story outside Detroit for some reason. Don't expect Peugeot dealers to pop any time soon in US. Although Peugeot makes some cool cars like the 308GT. Suspect we will see a lot more electric cars in the upcoming years. Check out the North American promo video link below as they are pulling on some of the FIAT, Lancia, Maserati, Alfa brands history blended with Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, DS, Vauxhall and the Dodge Chrysler brands.

Fiat and Chrysler have been together now since 2009. Has anyone yet spotted the benefit of that combination? Have either Fiat or Chyrsler's penetration of the other's home market expanded? Have promising technologies found new applications? Has the quality of the product improved? How about the profitability of the combination?

Big multinational organizations are difficult to manage. Making them bigger and even more multinational generally does not improve their performance. The market value of Stellantis is largely the market value of the Jeep brand. If the name of the parent was changed from Stellantis to Jeep tomorrow, I'm guessing the value of the stock would rise.

We as consumers would like to think that companies merge to innovate, gain access to new markets, increase efficiencies, provide customers with more of what they want, etc. Not true. Companies merge for only one of two reasons: 1) They are struggling and are desperate, or 2) They want to gain market share (i.e., more profit).

I'm not anti-capitalist, just realistic.
