Start to a nice summer

Post by gbsailing »

After two summers of rebuilding (winters are to cold here to work in non heated garage) I finally had a chance to take my 78' 124 out for the first drive. It had been sitting in a shed in Calif for 16 years before I got it 91K original miles original owner. Had to do fuel tank, carb, brakes, clutch and cable, u joints and guibo, removed all smog devices, installed 4-2-1 exhaust, timing belt and idler, water pump, good tuneup, front end rebuild and rear bushings, alinement. Work inside new dash and wood work, door and rear panels, and carpet.

Now back to the drive did a local backroad here and boy was it nice to drive held the corners nice and had plenty of power, ride was not that hard seams to ride smother than I thought it would. Keep the original springs and hydraulic shocks. I can tell this is going to be a nice summer, planning to drive it as much as possible. Gets a lot better milage than my SUV A LOT BETTER.

The thing I like after 43 years and 16 of it sitting there are no leaks, my garage floor is clean and dry. It looks as if the original owner took fairly good care of it. Now to finish the interior and have it painted but that might have to wait while I enjoy the work already done.
