Trailing arm and panhard rod replacement

Post by MBEpse »

Hi
I am planning to replace the trailing arms and panhard rod on my 1985 pininfarina - is this a straightforward 'swap over' project?
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Michael

Should be pretty easy and straight forward. Much easier than front bushings.

Are yours badly worn out? Why do you need to replace them?

I have been running mine hard for 20 years. The front is what I worry about.

It's easy.
Here's what my passenger side link looked like:

and here's the bushing:

Buy the set of arms, cheaper. Check with the main vendors to see who has the best deal. Mine were not as thrashed as yours but all of them were dented and bent. Found it an easy install. Check also the torquing down: there needs to be a load on the suspension when you torque.

Thanks guys - appreciate the replies.
I replaced the front arms, bushings, ball joints etc last year which was a challenge!!
Being the later model, it seems to be that the whole arms including bushings are what you replace - my plan with this car was to replace all mechanical parts etc - everything that is 36+ years old so really not sure what the condition is until I remove them.
My plan was to remove/reinstall one arm at a time.
My only real concern is getting the torques correct once the wheel are on and the car is off the jacks.

Hi MBE, absolutely not difficult to change the sway bars and panhard. Much easier than the front suspension. Torque can be done when car is lifted.
