Hi all - any recommendations for a mechanic and/or transmission rebuilder for my '80 Spider 2000, 5-speed? My transmission is working well but it is incredibly noisy regardless of gear, and clutch position. As long as the wheels are moving the noise is there..sounds like metallic rattling directly beneath the shifter. Transmission work is out of my scope and I would like to have a professional or someone knowledgable take a look. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

could be center drive shaft support bearing and guibo thing making the noise .... definitely something you could accomplish your self if have a jack and some stands to make room to access it ....Matt

If the noise is there with the clutch depressed and the wheels rolling, then yes, something is likely wrong in the driveshaft area. Definitely check the guibo (rubber donut) and its 6 bolts/nuts, or have it checked. It doesn't happen very often, but these things can fail catastrophically and the remnants have the ability to tear through the transmission tunnel and anything next it it. Like your legs.
