Vicks brand 32/36 dfev carb kit opinion/experience

Post by iilan »

Hi
I just got a 1978 spider cali version (air injection is not working and planning to take everything off in the next days) and was looking around and from what i found the to go carb is the 32/36 dfev for overall driveability and performance.
So wanted to see if anybody has used the vicks brand carb kit. It cost half as the weber so its very appealing.
Also for now was thinking of leaving the original intake manifold just swapping the carb.
The car has an electric fuel pump mounted in the engine bay on the intake side, dont know why they didnt installed it in the trunk as i see is the common thing to do, so dont know if i should leave it there in the engine bay or not.
I live down in miami so its a very hot weather just to consider.
Any opinions will be welcome.

If you do some searching the non Weber carbs seem to require some extra work to get them right. The old saying “you get what you pay for.” To me it’s worth the extra to get a Weber. I prefer AutoRicambi myself, but you get the same Weber with Vicks. (AR is slightly lower price right now). I went with a 34 ADF for my 78 and the 32/36 is very similar. A great and simple update for our 78’s is actually the exhaust manifold. 78 had a restrictive 4:1 and the 79 had a much improved one (4:2:1) that fits ours. That seemed to give me a bigger performance gain. If you look on FB groups, Mike Richmond has an Italian made 34 ADF for sale right now.
