The side mirrors on both sides of my 84 are getting significant black on the edges . This is a clear sign of the mirror deteriorating on the silver. I have researched the process of re-silvering mirrors, and believe I can do it. But I have to remove the actual mirror to do it (yes - and reinstall also).
Question: Has anyone done this, and how? BTW - if others want to get in on this, the kit and process would do many mirrors. Would be glad to do others at the same time.
The other option is to remove them, and put new ones on the fender. Giovanni believes this is a tasteless change that is to english for these fine Italian masterpieces.

Re: Side mirrors- 84
I installed these mirrors on my 1981 and a friends 1984 Spider. The foot print of the new mirror just covered the hole from the existing 81 mirror in the door. For the 84 we replaced the vent windows with earlier vent windows that open.

The nickel is a good quality I think the mirror surface is plastic so not as clear as glass might be. I think having the turn arrow in the mirror is a great safety feature.
Having vent windows that open is a great feature
Positioning the passenger side mirror is a little tricky. Having the mirror centered in its adjustment range and the driver sitting in their seat directing takes a little trial and error.
Just another thought.

Re: Side mirrors- 84
Spyder 2081 - the mirrors with turn signals are very safe - great idea. Giovanni told me I can't do that. He said 'no holes!' I wanted to put a pair on the fenders and he said that's British - Italians don't do that. Replacing the vent windows is a great idea, but solid would be ok. Just nt in keeping with the car and my desire to maintain as much of an original appearance as I can.
ORFORD2004, how did you get the glass off of the mount? I can re-silver them if I can get them off. Got a hint? Otherwise, I could by yours. I have a 1984 Pininfarina.
