installing 1800 35/75 head on 2000 block

Hey nut and Bryan,
As it relates to my car I bought it new in 1979 so I definitely know it’s a 2L head, I just bought the totally reconditioned 1800 head (verified) new valves, new guides, Isky springs, 35/75 cams and per the detailed instructions it came with, it can be installed as is with my original pulleys using the same static timing marks. I hadn’t yet opened the box when I first posted this thread, I guess I’m quite relieved after reading the installation instructions. Their really doesn’t seem to be any mods I need to make with this puppy, the hg matches up perfectly, from the looks of it they did a nice job it looks brand new. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes, you guys are on another level thanks for letting me pick your brains, I’ve learned a ton already.

The project is complete! I don’t have the new 1800 head broken-in just yet, I’ve only driven it about 50 mi., and I’m still tweaking the carb and ign timing. I put on the 4-2-1 header and complete stainless 2 1/4 inch exhaust sys w/o cat or center muff, the sound is much more beefier and louder, I’m going to start wearing earplugs for now, but may add a center muff later if it’s too loud. So far so good, I haven’t noticed any large increase in power, maybe it gets better once she’s broken-in, I’ll keep u posted. Btw, I put the timing light on#1, I’m going to try timing #4 to see if it improves. Everybody keeps saying timing it to 1 and 4 is the same, that doesn’t make sense to me because the valve positions are “Different” so the timing should also be different, even if it’s only a small difference. What’s your take?

If you're talking ignition timing, you can use either spark plug wire #1 or #4. The flash will occur at the same time relative to crankshaft rotation for these two cylinders. Wires #2 and #3 will be 180 degrees out, where there is no mark on the crankshaft to see.

If you use wire #4, your timing light will flash when the cam pulley timing holes are lined up with their marks, which can be useful to see if your cams are off by a tooth. If you use wire #1 (or 2 or 3), the flashes won't be at the right times to see the cam pulley marks.

You can get really tricky and put the timing light on the main wire from the coil to the distributor. This is useful to see if there are gaps in the stream of light as you rev the engine, which could indicate a misfire.

Heck, you could even put your rear wheels in the air, put the engine in 4th gear (1:1) ratio, and use the driveshaft to time the engine with the appropriate marks, but only Crazy Bryan would think of this.

Blufun..you mentioned instructions for 35/75 cam instalation ? Would you happen to still have those instructions ? I have a set if Faza 35/75 camscand would love to have some guidance as to specs and how to dial them in. Thanks for any info !
