I bought this '79 124 2000 on the south coast of the UK after it had been sat in a garage for 12 years.
New brakes, new cam belt, new starter motor, new alternator, new this, new that.......... you get the picture !
These cars are RARE here as they were only really export models to the USA and not that common in Europe either. Obviously they were all LHD although some here have been converted to RHD using 124 sedan parts. We're all pretty good now apart from it popping out of 2nd on the overrun and 5th being a bit of an aquired art so that's the gearbox project for the next few months sorted !
As I found it. It was looking very sorry for itself but underneath it was a really rock solid car waiting to get out. Apart from a few areas of surface rust it was all good which is a miracle for a 70's FIAT in the UK climate.
Last summer parked up next to an MGA in Wiltshire. I really did have to junk those bumpers. I must have saved over 60kg.
Anyway, look forward to reading through everyones tribulations !

It's got 1980 wheels. The 79 was carb only, but the 80 came with carb or FI.
1979 Fiat Spider (since new)
2005 Lincoln LS (the wife's car)
2003 Chevrolet Cavalier (daily driver)
1999 Honda Shadow VLX 600
1972 Grumman Traveller 5895L (long gone).

Interesting about the wheels bobplyler.
According to the plate it's a very late '79. It's got a carb.
It still had all the smog stuff on it which is now gone. It was pointless anyway as a lot of the plastic unions on the small diameter rubber pipes were either split or broken so it was drawing in air through the intake manifold practically everywhere ! It also had all the air-con pumps, evaporaters etc which is also now gone (and another big weight saver) as there really is no point in having air-con on a car like this in the UK

Nice looking car, and a rare find indeed! I'm guessing from all the smog equipment and the air conditioning that it was a US car? If so, do you know if it was a California car or "49-state" car? Just curiosity on my part, although there were subtle differences between the two in terms of smog equipment configuration.

Hi Broker,
nice car! But these custom bumpers? Just look for the european style bumpers!
The Spider isn't so rare as mentioned. The worldwide Spider Registry actually counts 680 cars in UK, see here:
https://www.fiatspider.de/register?Fahr ... ective=All
So it would be great to get your car data, if it's not already listed! Your serial no. must be starting with 124CS2015xxxx or ..16xxxx, right?
Good luck with your car!
Cheers Ralf
