Oil Pan Banged Up, Rattling

Be careful with DiFatta Brothers as they do not like to update their website and expect you to know that. Ask me how I know that !! Although Ed at DiFatta Brothers is a good guy sometimes their parts are no beter than the other usual suspects.

Alvon I too had to unbolt the pump to get the pan out but I was able to get the pan back in with the pump bolted in place. I figured I did not rotate the crank enough when I was removing the pan.

That's good to know, Ralph. Thanks! I don't have first hand experience, since I've never removed the pan with the engine in the car. It's good that you can see what you're doing during oil pump installation, and have good access to torque the bolts properly.

You can beat out the dent in the old pan and reuse it, but the windage tray needs to be cut out first, then welded back in place. Save yourself a coupla bucks there. Just make sure the mating surface is straight.

See!! you might just get by with removing the oil pan, straightening it out and reinstalling!! Now that would be a good day in my book!

Yes, agreed. Check the parts over closely. Maybe you can still use the parts you have.

However, if you end up needing an original 2.0L oil pump, contact me. I have a lead on one.

Thanks a bunch guys. The weather around here has been pretty nasty lately and I don't have a garage so I'm waiting for the best opportunity to take the oil pan off. When I've made some progress I'll update the thread and let everyone know how it went.

there's suppose to be a plastic shield on the underside of the car ? were can i get one of those ?

most people have removed that shield and thrown it away.It makes oil changes,etc.. a true pain to do.I might still have the one that was on mine .I will look for it.

Isn't that called a "windage tray" I think its purpose is to limit air travel under the car and up into the engine bay, thus creating a low pressure zone in the engine bay allowing more air to flow though the radiator. Usually discarded for access reasons, but the mounting hardware gets screwed up pretty quick. On older cars it also serves to limit the oil spots on the pavement.

I am sorry,I do not have it anymore.At Italian Car Day I met a guy that asked about the windage tray (belly pan) and I told him he was welcome to it.My son was driving to Atlanta ,and he delivered it to him.I had forgotten all about it.I would have given you the same price..free! I dont think my son would deliver it to Europe though. I am sure someone on this forum has one they will part with.The one off my car was banged up,and needed some TLC.

I'd call the item you're looking for a "belly pan" or even "skid plate" (although that's not its purpose) "air dam" is probably another term. But "windage pan (or tray)" is attached to the block or oil pan. Its function is to reduce the whipping of air into the oil. That's what I thought a windage tray was also. I have one for a 1608 oil pan that I can't use from a company in Florida that makes them. http://www.crank-scrapers.com/Fiat.html As for the belly pan, Ron made mine out of stainless steel. It does nothing to save the oil pan since there's a cutout for the oil pan. I'm not quite sure what it's good for except to keep road film off the engine.
